'Seniors' were crowned as champions after a rigorous judging process which included a customer vote, taste tests, an intense shop inspection and a presentation to a panel of industry experts.

Hanbury’s, Babbacombe, Devon, was named the second best shop in the country with Quayside, Whitby, North Yorkshire coming in third place.

Fryz made it to the second round of this years' competition. Making us one of the top three shops in our region.

The Awards are searching for the UK’s tastiest chip shop chips, voted by you - the nation’s chip lovers. If you believe the tastiest chips can be found at Fryz then please show your appreciation by voting for us in the Choice Chip Awards 'Best Chippy Chips' category.

The winner will be announced as part of Chip Week in February.

We do not sell fish species whose IUCN Red List status is less than Vulnerable. Current IUCN Red List status for the species we sell are as follows:

• Cod (Gadus morhua): Vulnerable;
• Haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus): Vulnerable;
• Plaice (Pleuronectes platessa): Least Concern;
• Rock (Squalus acanthias): Vulnerable;
• Scampi (Nephrops norvegicus): Least Concern.

Recall, we stopped selling Skate (Dipturus batis) in June 2008 when we became fully enlightened to it's IUCN Red List status: Critically Endangered:

Now, as well as being displayed in the shop, you can keep up to date with where our potatoes are sourced from by looking at our regularly updated interactive map at http://www.fryz.co.uk/spuds. The source of potatoes we are currently using is marked in green.

As Cod is the most popular species that sell, we set ourselves a target that Cod should be 65% of all fish products we sell by the end of 2011. Our progress is as follows:

• August: 73% of all fish sold was Cod;
• September: 69% of all fish sold was Cod;
• October: 68% of all fish sold was Cod.

As you can see, customers have responded really well and have reduced the statistic by 5 percentage points. Well done and keep up the good work! The November result will be up in the shop very soon, and stay tuned to see if we hit our 2011 target.

As always, we have learnt from the experience and will come back even stronger next year.

We did the very best we could to impart what Fryz is about on the visiting judge. We hope this is enough and we will keep you updated with our progress.

NFFF set up the Fish and Chip Quality Award scheme as a way of raising standard within the fish & chip trade and enhancing the profile of the industry. Five stars is highest accolade obtainable and we are honoured to have received the top rank.

The scheme is also a way of rewarding and promoting shops that provide a good quality product and high standards of hygiene, as well as friers who show a high level of competence.

To qualify, each shop has to go through a thorough gruelling inspection by a NFFF Approved Inspector who assesses the shop’s image, design and condition, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills, and most importantly, the quality of the cooked product.

Fryz is proud to be the only fish & chip shop in Peterborough to currently hold the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award.

Each NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award lasts for two years and retention is dependent on standard being maintained as validated by a NFFF appointed assessor.

An Industry Judging Group has scored Fryz as a Top Three shop in our geographical area: Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Norfolk and Suffolk. As there are 10 geographical regions in the competition. The next stage is a visit, on an un-announced date (anytime between now and 30 September 2012), by a competition auditor.
