The Bay Fish & Chips, Stonehaven, Aberdeeshire

Fryz would like to congratulate Calum, Lindsay and all the team at 'The Bay Fish & Chips' at Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire who were crowned 'Fish & Chip Shop of the Year' yesterday.

'The Bay' were crowned as champions after a rigorous judging process which included an intense shop inspection and a presentation to a panel of industry experts.

Simpsons, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was named the second best shop with Hanbury’s, Babbacombe, Devon coming in third place.

Fryz made it to the second round of this years' competition. Making us one of the top five shops in our region. We'll be entering the competition again next time round.

Fryz owner Rob took an opportunity to visit The Bay in October 2012 and meet Calum in person. It certainly is a cracking business and it was great to learn first hand about their MSC Certified Scottish Haddock. Also, the vista from The Bay is stunning!

New sausages

After becoming increasingly frustrated with consistency issues from our current sausage producer we took the decision to source a better sausage for Fryz. After much tasting and testing we have chosen to switch to Blakemans sausages. This wasn't a decision we took lightly and we have been really thrilled with the change. Feedback from customers so far has been great but please do let us know what you think.

Spud Prices BBC Radio

You can hear Rob talking about the price of spuds on Paul Stainton's BBC Radio Cambridgeshire show by going to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p012rvvx. The report starts at around 43 minutes.

For context, the local radio wanted to talk to someone in the fish and chip trade about the price of spuds. Last years' potato harvest is reported to be the worst since 1976 due to a combination of poor growing conditions coupled with poor lifting conditions. We are currently paying three times what should be for this time of year!
